Wolves-linked Rafael Leao catches the eye against Liverpool

Last night presented a good opportunity for some Wolverhampton Wanderers fans to get a glimpse of Rafael Leao.

The striker was frequently linked with a move to the club in the summer.

Calciomercato actually reported on the situation very recently. They claim Marseille, Everton, Borussia Dortmund and Wolves all had direct contact with AC Milan over the player.

In the end though, Leao stayed put and will fight Olivier Giroud, Ante Rebic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for minutes.

Last night, Leao started for Milan in their first Champions League group stage match against Liverpool.

He played from the left-hand side, going up against Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Rebic operating through the middle.

Leao was quiet in the game, with Liverpool having most of the ball, but he still had a decisive impact.

His vision enabled him to supply a great through ball for Rebic to equalise shortly before half-time.

Leao was then involved in the second goal; carrying the ball forwards down the left from deep, before sliding in Rebic on the overlap.

The Croatia international then squared, and the ball was eventually put in by Brahim Diaz.

Liverpool ended up coming from behind to win 3-2, and Leao was substituted off shortly after the hour mark.

Leao’s performance against Liverpool was decent to say he didn’t see a great deal of the ball.

He made two important contributions despite that, which is a sign of his potential.

His assist follows two goals for Milan already this season, and the 22-year-old appears to be in good form right now.

A move to Molineux didn’t transpire for Leao, but the club should definitely be keeping tabs on him for this season.

It could be that Wolves will need a new striker next summer, with Patrick Cutrone likely to move on and Raul Jimenez not getting any younger.
