Spurs were linked with Christopher Nkunku in April this year.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Tottenham had their eyes on RB Leipzig attacker.
As well as Spurs, Arsenal were reportedly monitoring Nkunku.
Nothing came of the speculation going into – and out of – the summer transfer window, however.
Nkunku has now made headlines across the football world following his amazing hat-trick against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
This made the 23-year-old only the second player to score a hat-trick against City in the competition after Lionel Messi in October 2016.
Sadly for Nkunku, he also joined an exclusive club of players who scored a treble but ended up on the losing side.
Leipzig played out an exhilarating nine-goal thriller at the Etihad, finishing 6-3 to the hosts.
Each of Nkunku’s goals – on 42, 51 and 73 minutes – pulled Leipzig back to within one goal.
However, City quickly followed each goal up by going up the other end and restoring their advantage.
Despite the result, Nkunku’s heroics on the night mean he’s likely to have plenty of eyes on him going into the January transfer window.
Bild reported last season that he would cost around £35million – will this be tested come 2022?
