Genoa full-back Mohamed Fares was happy to have joined the Rossoblu on loan from Lazio.
Speaking in an interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 25-year-old Algerian full-back first spoke about his time with the Biancocelesti.
I had an unlucky season. I arrived in Rome without preparation, then I had Covid-19. Every experience teaches you something. I hope I won’t make certain mistakes again.
He spoke about a fellow former Lazio player now at Genoa, Felipe Caicedo.
I hope he’ll be back soon. He doesn’t talk much but we have a good relationship. We need him. Is he a starter here? That’s why he’s here, his career speaks for itself. He’s very strong.
Fares touched on the brace he scored on his Genoa debut against Cagliari last weekend.
I’m very happy for the importance of our victory. Those three points are worth a lot in Cagliari, because in such a particular moment. When you are losing 2-0 you don’t think about anything. You only think about giving your best, trying to recover the disadvantage as long as the clock allows you to. Of course, for what happened, I was obviously in the right place at the right time, but before becoming an outfielder as a boy I was a striker. The same role as my father. He also played, but had to interrupt his career because of a motorbike accident. Now he’s always by my side. The forward role dates back to the beginning of my career, I loved CR7, many young forwards had him as a role model.
He spoke about his transfer deadline day move from Lazio to Genoa.
I never wanted to deal with certain situations. I knew about the interest and the move here pleased me. I’ve been playing in Italy for many years now and I was already familiar with the prestige, history and charm of this club. When the deal went through, I was very happy.
Finally, Fares spoke about Genoa coach Davide Ballardini, who was incredibly keen to have the Algerian.
We have worked hard and well in these first days. As a person, the coach is very calm. I hope to learn and grow a lot this season.
The 25-year-old Fares has joined Genoa on a season-long loan deal from Lazio, in a deal that contains an option to buy clause set around €7 million.
Last season, the Algerian full-back made 21 Serie A appearances for the Biancocelesti, for a total of 1138 minutes. In that time, he provided one assist.
