Michael Ball expects Manchester City to move for Erling Haaland

Manchester City will not want to miss out on Borussia Dortmund hitman Erling Haaland, says the club’s former defender Michael Ball.

City missed out on key target Harry Kane during the last summer transfer window, meaning their problem up front has not been addressed.

Winger Ferran Torres is currently playing as the No.9 following Sergio Aguero’s departure in what looks like a short-term fix.

Who are you taking?

Manager Pep Guardiola made it clear last month that he wanted Kane, so the Spaniard is obviously keen to add a natural striker to his squad.

But with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy not making things easy, City may have to turn elsewhere in the new year. And Ball believes that elsewhere could be Haaland.

“We know his relationship with Manchester City with his father. You know, he is a Man City fan,” the retired full-back said to TIF when discussing Haaland’s future. “I don’t think Manchester City will want to lose out.

“Man City could press the button and bring him in as a more long-term striker for the future.”

It is well known that Haaland has a €75m (around £63m) release clause that kicks in next year. And as already mentioned by Ball, he represents a more long-term option compared to someone like Kane, who is seven years older than the Norway international.

Based on all of that, moving Haaland, who Transfermarkt actually value at £117m, up their shortlist looks a no-brainer for City.
