Manchester United: Romano reveals interest in Bellingham

Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel to discuss Manchester United’s interest in Jude Bellingham.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for Bellingham in the summer of 2020 when he was at Birmingham City and even handed him a tour of the training ground, but the midfielder ultimately decided to join Borussia Dortmund and linked up with the likes of Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, although the latter has now departed for Old Trafford himself.

Should Man United sign Bellingham?

Bellingham has taken to life in the Bundesliga like a duck to water, racking up 29 appearances in his debut campaign as well as scoring goals in the Champions League, including one against Manchester City which led to Pep Guardiola labelling him as ‘fantastic‘, and he seems to be on course for a very good season this time around having started every game so far, scoring two goals and registered four assists.

Romano has confirmed Man United’s interest in Bellingham still persists – but insists they are not alone.

“I think the only point with Bellingham is about the ‘interest’. I will call it an interest, and it is not only from United, to be honest; Chelsea, Liverpool, all top English clubs are looking at Jude Bellingham and will be ready to bring him [to the] Premier League.

“We are talking about an incredible talent, so I would say it’s normal that Man United, as many other clubs, they are watching him and they are seeing his progress.

“So it’s absolutely something normal in football, but it’s not a negotiation, from what I know, it’s not like a talk with an agent or with Borussia Dortmund.”

If people were doubting Bellingham’s ability, then surely those doubts were put to bed in the last few months which have seen him star against Besiktas in the Champions League for Dortmund, as well as featuring briefly for England at Euro 2020, during which he turned 18.

Given the situation surrounding Paul Pogba, with his contract set to expire next summer, Man United may be looking for alternatives if the Frenchman was to leave and they could do much worse than to try and get Bellingham. With links suggesting they were interested in Eduardo Camavinga, they seem to be looking towards the future for their midfield, so it may not be a surprise to see a move happen.
