Emerson Royal names the three Tottenham players who played a part in his transfer from Barcelona

Emerson Royal will be hoping it’s third time lucky as he looks to win for the first time as a Tottenham player.

Joining Spurs on deadline day in a deal worth £25.8million from Barcelona, the right-back was handed his Premier League bow last weekend in the 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.

Coming off the bench in a more advanced role on Thursday night as the team drew 2-2 away at Rennes in the Europa Conference League, the Brazilian has been restored to his natural right-back role to face Chelsea at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Even though it is just under three weeks since he made the move from the Camp Nou to N17, Emerson appears to have already struck up a close friendship with fellow countryman Lucas Moura.

Taking part in an interview with the attacker on Spurs TV, Emerson revealed that he had actually spoken with the 29-year-old and two more Spurs players ahead of his move to the club.

“Fantastic,” he said when asked about Tottenham’s training facilities. “I had already talked to you, [Giovani] Lo Celso, [Sergio] Reguilon and other people who have been here before and they all speak very highly of the training centre.

“I have never even seen a picture but when i heard I might come to Tottenham, I started researching.

“When I arrived I saw that the structure is fantastic. Not only the training centre, but also the people are exceptional. They are welcoming, I am very happy.”

Looking set to be the club’s right-back over the coming years after signing a long-term deal in the capital, Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision to play him on the right of a front three following the team’s injury woes in Rennes certainly raised eyebrows.

However, the youngster is no stranger to the position having played in an attacking role during his youth career.

“No, I’ve played in other positions too,” he admitted when Lucas asked him where he’s played on the pitch in the past. “I’ve played as a midfielder and a right winger. We played with two full-backs. A more withdrawn full-back and me, to do more deep-lying moves.

“I arrived at Sao Paulo as a midfielder and then I became a full-back there.

“I have to take advantage of my characteristics and my biotype. While I have breath, I need to go back and forth!”
