Chelsea came forward for ‘one of best in world’ – Blues weren’t willing to meet demands

In the final weeks of the summer transfer window, Chelsea made efforts to sign Jules Koundé and even submitted a proposal to acquire the centre-back’s services.

The Blues’ offer, however, was turned down by Sevilla as it didn’t satisfy the La Liga side. The 22-year-old has an €80m release clause in his contract, and they want something close to that.

Thomas Tuchel’s side did not meet the demands set by Sevilla, and Koundé is not the only defender Chelsea walked away from.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the west London club were one of three sides to come forward for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer.

The newspaper states the Senegal international has regained his best form this season after having ‘difficult years’ in the past two campaigns. They even hail him as ‘one of the best defenders in the world’.

Corriere state Chelsea and two other sides ‘didn’t evaluate what Napoli considered appropriate; including bonuses, not even €40m’ for the former Genk man.

Tuchel’s side finished the window without bringing in a new centre-back to Stamford Bridge.
